We’re kicking off the month with a focus on the human element: the first line of defense, but also the path of least resistance for many cybercriminals
01 Oct 2025
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and what better way to open it than with a reminder that the human element is the first and crucial line of defense against all manner of cyberthreats. Cybercriminals are adept at targeting not just technical flaws, but also take advantage of our susceptibility to various social engineering tricks. Unsurprisingly, then, human error remains a key factor facilitating security incidents.
These days, as cybercriminals increasingly leverage AI tools that make their ploys even more believable and hyper-personalized, the stakes are even higher and the simple human act of trusting a voice or image has become a major risk factor. As all manner of scams use deepfakes, ranging from investment and sextortion scams to BEC fraud, both individuals and entire businesses need to be ready for the new reality of AI-powered fraud.
